Canadian Foundation Divests From Fossil Fuels!


Strong financial logic as well as a deep concern for environmental stewardship has led the Catherine Donnelly Foundation to divest. According to this article in the Vancouver Observer, while the Foundation has used an engagement approach in the past, their board determined that a “business as usual” approach is not sustainable.  This opinion is echoed by Green Century Funds in their recent statement “The Power and Limits of Shareholder Advocacy with Fossil Fuel Companies”, which argues that divestment from fossil fuel companies is more effective than shareholder advocacy.
